Lebanese arayes - crispy meat filled pita

Lebanese Arayes are a delightful fusion of crispy pita bread and a savory meat filling, grilled to perfection. This traditional dish offers a burst of rich flavors in every bite, making it a favorite for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 Village Food pita breads
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Village Labneh or tahini sauce, for serving

    Prepare the Meat Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, mint, ground allspice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Stuff the Pita Bread

  4. Cut each Village Food pita bread in half to form pockets.
  5. Carefully open each pocket and stuff with the meat mixture, spreading it evenly.
  6. Cook the Arayes

  7. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  8. Place the stuffed pitas in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the meat is fully cooked and the pita is golden and crispy.
  9. Add the remaining olive oil as needed for cooking all the pitas.
  10. Serve

  11. Remove the Arayes from the skillet and let them cool slightly.
  12. Serve with lemon wedges and a side of yogurt or tahini sauce for dipping.
